I will be honest, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple of clicks and a client can place an order using a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a price tag. A major one.
This is only the few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this post, I would like to talk about a recent bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, also why I chose to give up on the platform entirely.
How A Normal Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I've been advising her on building a reputable accounts, and how to go above and beyond with every previous purchase. Everything mentioned is that her doing, I'm only an observer.)
In this case, she'd only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be like another... or so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had even included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the pricier bundle ).
The customer"loved" among the concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description. Soon afterwards, things got a little weird.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something which is clearly not available as part of her gig.
Against my advice, my girlfriend chose to deliver the further job, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the client responded with even more demands and some adjustments to the social networking files.
At this time, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from only overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a reply and reach out to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did eventually go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review: How to Find Virtual Assistants that Don't Suck - Crowd ... kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support query, the client paid an additional $10 to your social media kit.
Of course, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
At this point, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so that I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
However, in the moment, I had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came from Fiverr support, they told her they couldn't Fiverr Review - The Pros and Cons of the Five-Dollar Marketplace ... force the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Alright, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
They also suggested drawing up a list for the buyer to demonstrate the work has been completed in accordance with the gig requirements.
Honestly, this response just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email the client was attempting to extort her to get free work out the agreed periods, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Of course, it was not about the work, it was all about seeking protection against an abusive customer who had been blatantly pushing their luck.
Their answer did not give either of us some confidence that Fiverr actually knew that, and even at this point we felt like they didn't need to get involved.
At the identical time, she responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function together unless the comments had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments that was clearly and intentionally left to bully her to providing work outside of the agreed terms.)
An honest request by anyones standards, discover this info here appropriate?
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she had requested the customer to change their opinions, she was no longer entitled to any help from Fiverr assistance.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her very last message has been now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr basically decided to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an account she had worked so hard to build up.
If everything that occurred was not upsetting enough, it is knowing that this individual is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers with no sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as all of this was occurring, I did some investigating to determine whether any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I found a variety of nearly equal cases on the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's right, decades.)
This is obviously something that's been going on for quite a while and it all stems from providing buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how long that you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on itor perhaps how long you managed communication in a dispute, as it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it's a very clear cut situation in your favor, there's still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" in accordance with their conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it is obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet is still inclined to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can place all the time and effort in establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, only to be shot down from the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not wish to leave Fiverr. I don't want to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that's occurred, you have not left me any selection.
Until something is done in order to guard freelancers from this sort of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do whatever I can to prevent others from falling prey to a one-sided support staff.
The second you really do something about this and provide freelancers a way to fight , I will be happy to update the post.
